This thesis investigates a particular class of Dutch verbs, those prefixed by ver-, with respect to the appearances of SE-anaphors with these verbs. The thesis shows an overview of the effects of ver-prefixation on the theta grid, as to provide insight in these appearances. The analysis is threefold. The SE-anaphor appears obligatory when ver is attached to unergatives, cause ver adds an ACC-feature to the grid which must then be checked. The SE-anaphor also appears since the argued structure of ver-verbs syntactically embeds the object of the verb. In such a configuration syntactic reflexivization allows for either an SE-anaphor or a SELF-anaphor to appear. Finally the SE-anaphor appears as an unaccusativity marker in ver-verbs derived from nouns and adjectives. A subprocedure of ver-prefixation, that converts adjectives and nouns to verbs, is responsible for this type of unaccusativity marking.
