This thesis compares the duration of political revolts that have taken place in the provinces of Gelderland, Overijssel and Utrecht after the death of Stadtholder William III. In Amersfoort and Steenwijk the Foldings only lasted a few months, whereas in the towns of Arnhem, Deventer, Nijmegen and Zutphen, the Foldings lasted several years. This thesis tries to find which combination of factors were determining for the duration of the Foldings.
