The main focus of this thesis lies on the translation difficulties of youth language as a non-standard language variety, and the translation strategies that can be applied. To illustrate these difficulties and strategies, two significant works of young adult fiction are compared: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, and Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis.
