Commercializing academic research, supporting innovation, and driving economic growth are key factors of university spin-offs. As the significance of these ventures continues to expand, the question arises: What is an effective way for university spin-offs to obtain public funding in their growth strategy? This master thesis aims to address this question by conducting a comprehensive research study that examines various approaches used by university spin-offs to secure public funding and identifies the most impact strategies for accelerating their growth. Based on a diverse range of scholarly literature, case studies, and expert opinions, this research explores the primary elements that significantly impact the process of acquiring public funding for university spin-offs. It examines the influence of factors such as regional/national policies, government funding programs, collaboration networks, and entrepreneurial capabilities on effectiveness of public funding strategies. The study also investigates the influence of timing, readiness, and alignment of spin-off objectives with funding agencies’ priorities on funding success rates.
