Aim: To examine the relationship among nursing teacher factors, team learning processes of nursing teachers and the implementation of “Skills Online”. This research contributes to development of innovation implementation theory. The results of this research can influence implementation strategy and therefore conduct to a successful implementation. For nursing students, it is important that new, effective teaching methods like E-learning are implemented successfully. Background: “Skills Online” is an e-learning program for Dutch nursing schools to use in teaching clinical nursing skills. “Skills Online” can be considered as an innovation in nursing education. The implementation of innovations always involves team learning processes. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among all nursing teachers who are working at one of the three nursing schools where “Skills Online” was implemented. The variables “characteristics of nursing teachers”, “team learning process” and “implementation efficacy” were assessed with questionnaires. Data were collected over three months (February - April 2010) Results: Eighteen nursing teachers were included. Descriptive statistics were used to view the different variables and to show a relationship between the variables. The relation between team learning and implementation efficacy was the most clearest tendency. Conclusion: The tendency emerged in this research is a theoretical contribution to the successful implementation of different innovations in different settings. Further research is required to justify a statistical relationship between team learning and implementation efficacy of “Skills Online”
