This study quantified the land area attributed to bioenergy production in the EU for the years 2010 and 2021. By applying three allocation methods—mass-based, energy-based, and economic allocation— land use was distributed among primary products and co-products. This allowed to gain deeper insights into the scientific relevance of appropriately selecting allocation methods in land use calculations and enhanced the understanding of evolving land use dynamics.
