We work out the proof of a theorem by Freiling and Rinne in detail. This theorem provides a necessary and sufficient condition on the shape of a rectangle, so that a square can be tiled with such similar rectangles. In addition, we look at applications of this theorem and briefly discuss potential generalisations.
