Despite the developments in Generative Artificial Intelligence and the publicity of associated tools like ChatGPT, efforts of research and companies surrounding the use of this technology are in an early stage and are often fragmented. In collaboration with KPMG, this study aims to design and evaluate a method that leverages ChatGPT to improve efficiency in digital transformation projects. Specifically while designing target business architecture products. The main research question is stated as follows: How can a large language model tool be utilized to support the development of target business architecture products? A method called GenArch was designed to guide the appropriate timing and utilization of ChatGPT throughout the business architecture design process. This method was validated by expert interviews and an experiment. The perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and intention to use of the method were analyzed to assess the perceived efficacy, which served as an indicator of efficiency. The results show that the GenArch method possesses at least a moderately high level of perceived efficacy. Hence, the GenArch method provides a structured approach for the timely and effective utilization of ChatGPT in the target business architecture product design process, while positively influencing the efficiency of this design process. These findings underscore the significant role that large language model tools can play in the domain of business architecture, and potentially the broader field of digital transformation.
