Nowadays, the amount of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) who are overweight and obese is increasing. Bariatric surgery (BS) has been shown to be an effective method for weight loss in the general population, but large scale research investigating the outcomes of BS in PLHIV is still lacking. Thus this study aims to investigate the impact of an HIV infection on the efficacy and safety outcomes of BS in the Netherlands.
