Upon liver damage, hepatic stellate cells become activated and will lose their retinoid storage. Hepatic stellate cells have been found in close proximity of hepatic progenitor cells. The hepatic progenitor cells are represented in this research as intrahepatic cholangiocyte organoids. The effect of the activation of hepatic stellate cells is represented as retinoids in the medium.
