| dc.description.abstract | The aim of the present study was to examine the unique role of warmth in the sibling relationship and parental differential affection on internalizing problems of young adolescents. In this study a possible mediating role of the sibling relationship on the link between parental differential affection and internalizing problems was also examined. The sample consisted of 579 adolescents between the ages 11 and 14, with at least one sibling. Data was retrieved through self-report. Multiple regression analyses, seperately controlling for sexcombination, revealed a negative correlation between warmth of the sibling relationship and internalizing problems, only for sisters. Furthermore, a link was found between parental differential affection and internalizing problems, only for brother-sister dyads. No mediating effect of sibling relationship was found. | |
