The aim of this research is to reveal the effects of geniposidic acid (GPA), a component of Chinese herbal medicine, on type 1 diabetes mellitus-induced osteoporosis. To study the effects of GPA, the following methods will be used: quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis, cell viability assay, western blot, animal and experimental design and ALP activity analysis of primary osteoblasts. Student’s t-test was performed to examine differences between two groups, while one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to analyze the statistical significance of differences in multiple groups. In this study, GPA promotes bone formation by enhancing RUNX2, BK and ALP in vitro at the concentrations of 2-20 uM. This effect appears to decrease at concentrations above 20 uM.
