This research aims to analyze how the EU has pursued its foreign policy in the Gulf (GCC) between 2003-2022 in relation to China’s assertive foreign policy in the region. Extensive research has already been presented on China’s BRI as a geopolitical tool, and how the EU combats China’s assertiveness within Europe in contemporary times, but the academic gap this research aims to fill is how the EU “combats” China’s assertiveness in the Gulf after the adoption of the ESS.
