This thesis is a multidisciplinary endeavour in which the fields of molecular biology, agriculture and ethics intersect. With the case of farm animal genome editing as the main focus of the paper the following key aspects are addressed: modern genetic engineering methods, their application in farm animals, the state of animal agriculture, the ethical debate around the case, and finally the added value of the Foucauldian 'biopolitics' approach.
