dc.subject: Tree nut allergies are a worldwide cause of anaphylactic events. Many allergic patients are sensitized to more than one tree nut. Independent sensitization to multiple tree nuts (co-sensitization) is common, whereas reactivity of IgE antibodies to homologous proteins in different allergens (cross-reactivity) is less well defined. Allergen components in hazelnut and walnut are homologous, however the extent of cross-reactivity among these tree nuts remains understudied.
