dc.subject | Mitochondrial transplantation, the administration of intact functional mitochondria to diseased tissue, is actively being studied in different disease contexts. Regarding ischemia/reperfusion injury, mitochondrial transplantation has been proposed to alleviate the 'area at risk' and have a rescuing effect on cardiomyocyte survival and cardiac function. Different research groups have proposed different strategies for optimization of the intervention, with varying experimental outcomes. | |
