Research into the quality of After School Care (ASC) is essential because of the exponential grow of children in ASC’s and the potential for social and broad talent development of high quality ASC’s. Furthermore, to adapt to the changing experiences of children this day, forming bonds between pedagogical and educational institutions is crucial. For this reason, this research looks into the educational potential of ASC’s in the educational infrastructure. On a quantitative level, quality measurements are used to find relations between educational quality and profiles and contact with primary schools. Subsequently semi-structured experts interviews were held with managers of good practise ASC’s (n=9) to look into beneficial factors of educational quality. This study shows that only in IKC-ASC’s relations exits between a focus on broad talent development and educational quality. Moreover contact with primary schools did not relate to educational quality. The good practises portrayed contrasting results: an educational profile and good contact with schools was seen as beneficial for the educational quality, just like competent care workers. Finally, ASC’s fulfill an apparent complementary part in the Dutch pedagogical and educational infrastructure because of the unique combination of educational enhancement and free play. However further attention in policy and academic research is necessary.
