Recent research shows that parental education is linked to the early numeracy of children. A high parental education level, especially the maternal education level, predicted better early numeracy. Furthermore, recent research shows that there are no gender differences in early numeracy. In this study a positive relationship is expected between the parental education level and the early numeracy of children, without any gender differences. Early numeracy was measured in 444 children between four and six years (M = 64.55 months) old. The UGT-3 is used to measure early numeracy among the children. In addition, the educational level of parents was registered: parents of 142 children filled out this questionnaire. This questionnaire was used to examine the effect of the parental education level on early numeracy. Results show that there are no gender differences in early numeracy. Furthermore, a positive relationship is found between the scores on the UGT-3 and the parental education level, especially the paternal education level. In this relationship, there were no significant gender differences either. From this study, it can be concluded that the parental education level is a positive predictor of the early numeracy of children. It would be possible to intervene indirect by the parents, to increase the early numeracy level by the child.
