On August 27, 2005 hurricane Katrina struck the city of New Orleans. Almost 4 years later, the devastation of Katrina can still be seen in the city. In this thesis is looked into the way in which people conceive and construct (or shape) this ‘new’ space of post-Katrina New Orleans. Could it be that the hurricane has created an opportunity for change of producing space? A duality is employed of viewing this production of space: the professionals who conceive space, and the inhabitants of the city (also called shapers and constructers).
