dienen.
Research question: Taking preventive measures seems to be of great importance to stop
adolescence from turning criminal. The total IQ score and parental supervision are often pinpointed
as preventative factors for stopping criminal behavior. This thesis researches whether the total IQ
score and parental supervision in early adolescence has a preventative effect on developing
delinquent behavior in late adolescence.
Method: 111 Dutch adolescence were asked to fill in questionnaires in their early (Mage =
13.2) and late adolescence (Mage = 18.2). A Pearson’s chi-square test of contingencies was
conducted using the total IQ score as measured by the WISC-III-R and the selfreport delinquent
behavior. A binairy logistic regression was conducted using the total IQ score, parental knowledge
scale of the Parenting Practices questionnaire and the selfreport delinquent behavior filled in during
the early and late adolescence.
Results: Parental supervision in early adolescence shows no significant effect on delinquent
behavior in late adolescence. Next to this total IQ score seems to have no significant effect on
delinquent behavior of the adolescent in late adolescence. Furthermore intelligence does not seem to
function as moderator between parental supervision in early adolescence and delinquent behavior in
late adolescence | |
