| dc.description.abstract | This study examined the influence of parental support on bullying behavior in young adolescents, and whether this relationship is mediated by affective and cognitive empathy. The data is collected from 425 adolescents, aged 12 to 15 years old. The adolescents completed questionnaires measuring the support of their parents, their own bullying behavior and their own affective and cognitive empathy. Results from a PROCESS macro model suggest that more parental support shown by parents is significantly related to less bullying behavior. As expected, this relationship was mediated by Empathy, more specific Affective Empathy. Moreover, Cognitive Empathy did not mediate the relationship between parental support and bullying behavior. These findings support the idea that parental support is important for the development of bullying behavior and empathy. | |
