dc.description.abstract | The primary aim of this study is to acquire a better understanding of the metal coordination effects of salicylate in biomolecules. For inspiration, the iron(II) centered protein salicylate 1,2-dioxygenase is used. The matter is approached by synthesizing various biomimetic metal salicylate complexes and subjecting these to an X-ray diffraction experiment. The high resolution crystal structures of salicylic acid, zinc(II) salicylate and manganese(II) salicylate are described and the coordination effects of these metals are discussed. Additionally, the crystal structures of two novel iron salicylate complexes (iron(III) salicylate dihydrate; triethanolaminato iron(III)) are discussed in detail as well as the re-evaluation of the crystal structure of triethanolaminato iron perchlorate. | |
