This article describes a research about early mathematical skills, tested with the UGT-R test from Van Luit and Van de Rijt (2009). The main research question is: ‘Is there a relation between early mathematical skills by toddlers and gender and the position of the child in their family?’. The first subquestion ‘Is there a relationship between early mathematical skills and gender?’ has been answered by 97 participants. The second subquestion ‘Is there a relationship between early mathematical skills and the child’s family position?’ has been answered by 90 participants. All participants completed the UGT-R test once in the month April. The results from the statistical analyses doesn’t represent significant relationships between the variables gender, child’s family position and early mathematical skills. The insignificance of the results could be a consequence of the limitations of the research set-up. The age of the toddlers can be another reason as they are only just starting to develop their mathematical skills. Therefore, the differences in the outcomes of the early mathematical skills are minimal. Further research is recommended.
