Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate to what extent a relationship exists between creativity and mathematical skills among children of 8, 9, 10 and 11 years of age. In addition, we examined if and how gender and age affected this relationship. Method: To test these hypotheses multiple correlations were performed. These analyses were performed on 102 participants. Those participants were selected by means of a convenience sample. To check whether the result were significantly different the Fisher R-to-Z transformation was used. Results: From the Spearman correlation we could conclude that there did not exist a significant relationship between creativity and children's mathematical skills. However there was a significant relationship when we only looked at the group of 8-year-olds. Also, the group of the 8-year-olds differed significantly from the group of 9-year-olds, but this was not the case among the other groups. When we looked at the influence of gender on creativity and mathematical skills, we again didn't find a significant relationship. Conclusion: In this research we found that there is no relationship between creativity and mathematical skills. There are however some differences when we looked at the age, but not when we looked at the gender of the children. We would recommend that future researchers should use bigger control groups, use an a-select sample and select one researcher who takes all the tests.
