Objective: This study investigates the correlation between social media use and perceived peer pressure among boys and girls between the age of 15 and 18. The moderation of “gender” is also taken into account. Method: An online survey is used to retrieve the needed information to run quantitative analyses. Results: A hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed a significant positive correlation between gender (moderator), the use of social media and perceived peer pressure (p = < .05, f2 = .42). This shows that social media use and gender influence the level of perceived peer pressure. Conclusions: In brief, perceived peer pressure among adolescents between the age of 15 and 18 can be predicted when the influence of social media use and gender are both considered. Therefore, this study has made a start on developing theories about experiencing peer pressure through gender and social media use. Hence, this study can be considered as a basis for further studies on this subject.
