Background. Organizations are increasingly aware of the value of their data and of sharing it through a data platform. Academic literature, however, has primarily focused on philanthropic and governmental data platforms, staying away from commercial platforms. Objectives. This research introduces DaaPs, as a commercial data platform. For this topic, a definition is drafted, characteristics are identified and a focus area maturity model is introduced. Method. A systematic literature review, interviews and a single embedded case study is performed to get insights on this topic and develop and validate several artefacts. Results DaaPs are defined and an overview with characteristics is created. Next to that, a Focus Area Maturity Model is introduced showing a DaaP’s capabilities and how they can be improved through maturing practices. Conclusion This research shows how organizations can capture value from their data, by creating and maturing a DaaP on which their data is monetized.
