The education level of parents plays a role in their parenting. In studies to this subject, mostly one parenting domain is involved, are mothers the respondents and is the focus on parents of school children. Parenting behaviour is divided into five domains; support, structure, stimulation, negative discipline and positive discipline. The level of education is divided into: high, medium and low. Highly educated parents seem to use more positive parenting, like support, structure, stimulation and positive discipline and less negative parenting, like negative discipline. Research has been done whether the education level of parents of toddlers is related with the five domains support, structure, stimulation, negative discipline and positive discipline. The Comprehensive Early Childhood Parenting Questionnaire is used to question 346 mothers and 342 fathers of children with the age of 18 to 42 months to find their parenting behaviour. The education level is collected with means of a questionnaire asking for the highest finished education. A MANOVA concludes that the domains stucture, negative discipline and positive discipline shows a relation with the education level of fathers. Low educated fathers offer less structure than medium and highly educated fathers and offer more negative discipline than highly educated fathers. Low educated fathers apply less positive discipline than medium educated fathers. No relation is found between the education level of mothers and the parenting domains. This study alos makes clear that fathers are using more structure and negative discipline and mothers are using more support, stimulation and positive discipline compared to fathers.
