Le paysage linguistique et sémiotique français dans la restauration. Le cas d’Utrecht, Pays-Bas

Abstract

Cette recherche sociolinguistique mêle analyse des paysages linguistiques et sémiotiques via le prisme de la culture culinaire française et de son influence ces derniers siècles. À travers les éléments culturels, linguistiques et les représentations associées à la France, je mettrai en évidence l’influence que la culture française, et notamment culinaire, exerce sur les individus dans la construction de leur paysage. Dans le paysage linguistique et sémiotique des restaurants d’inspiration française aux Pays-Bas, une telle observation permet de savoir si les éléments français ont une dimension identitaire pour l’individu qui en fait usage, ou bien s’ils sont le résultat d’une appropriation culturelle. Pour cela, cette étude nécessite dans un premier temps l’observation de lieux à connotation française pour ensuite en déduire les raisons de ces usages. This sociolinguistic research combines analysis of linguistic and semiotic landscape with the the status of french culinary culture and its influence this past centuries. Through the cultural elements and representations associated to France I will highlight the way in which individuals shape their landscape and what role french culture and cuisine play in this construction. The scope of this research is to understand wether the linguistic and semiotic landscape of french style restaurants in the Netherlands is the result of cultural appropriation through made through representations, or the outcome of a cultural transfert involving an identity dimension. To illustrate the reasons for the presence of french connoted restaurants in the Netherlands, I will first conduct ethnographic observation in order to gain insight.
