Objective: This study examines if the living situation of the child after a divorce creates a difference in the extend of externalising- and internalising behaviour, if the age is divided per living situation and if gender of the child is divided per living situation. Method: Data is used from the cross-sequential data set retrieved from the survey research ‘Scholieren en Gezinnen 2006-2013’. Youths from families with divorced parents, aged 9 -17 years (M = 13.18, SD = 1.41), have participated in the research project (n=1431). Results: For both externalising and internalising behaviour there was no significant growth shown with the living situation after a divorce. The variable age shows that there is a significant result in the living situation after a divorce. Younger children appear to more often live with their fathers in comparison with older children. There is no significant difference in the gender of the child and their living situations after a divorce. This means that the living situation after a divorce does not differ between boys and girls. Conclusion: There is no significant difference in the dividing of boys and girls per living situation and the degree of problem behaviour. There is a significant result in the variable age per living situation after a divorce. Key words: (parental) divorce, gender, living arrangement, co-parenting, internalising, externalising, age.
