dc.description.abstractThis study examined the prevalence and nature of bullying and victimization among children, aged 10 to 12 years, on sports clubs and the way in which bullying and victimization on sports clubs can be prevented and countered. With regard to the prevalence and nature of bullying and victimization, this study will focus on type of sports and gender. Besides that, the views of children on bullying and victimization in the context of the sports club and children’s role in it is also considered. Two hundred and nine questionnaires were administered, which a quantitative analysis was conducted, with respect to their bullying and victimization experiences at the sports club, to look at prevalence bullying and victimization and different roles. Twenty-four children were interviewed about their views on bullying and victimization and the way sports coaches ways of handling these issues were used for qualitative data-analysis. Results showed there was no main effect of type of sport and gender. Besides that children report different definitions and prevalence’s towards bullying and victimization. Most participants valued bullying and victimization as a problem that is hard to solve. For most children, talking with the sports coach was the most important approach to reduce the problem and they declared effect. Besides that, sport coaches used suspension as common method to counter bullying and victimization.
