dc.description.abstract | This thesis investigates one of the first data-centered privacy debates in the Netherlands. It analyzes the discourse on the census of 1971, the first, large-scaled gathering of data by the government. The thesis argues that the sentiments recognized in the 1971 debate are comparable to other instances - for example our contemporary privacy and data discussion - in which new technology was perceived as threatening for data security. | |
