This thesis builds towards a rigorous description of black holes. It start with the mathematics of differential geometry. Curved spaces and surfaces will be described using these mathematics. This will give us the right tools to understand Einstein's theory of general relativity, where spacetime can be curved. This curvature is described by Einstein's equation. Black holes will appear as specific solutions of Einstein's equations. Finally, the thermodynamics of black holes will briefly be discussed and their entropy will be calculated.
