The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between the ‘Utrechtse Getalbegrips Toets, Revised (UGT-R)’ and the ‘CITO Rekenen’ in measuring early numeracy in grades 2 and 3 in Dutch primary schools. 99 children were tested using the UGT-R and CITO-scores were obtained. Of these 99 children, 44 were male and 55 were female. Each participating child also received a questionnaire to be filled out by their parents, which contained questions about practicing mathematical skills at home. Early numeracy was analyzed looking at four different components: gender, age, mathematical education and time spend practicing math at home. Statistical analysis were conducted using Pearsons correlation, MANOVA and Kendall’s Tau-B. The results of the analyses showed no relation between gender and early numeracy scores and no relation between time spend practicing math at home and early numeracy scores. For age and mathematical education no unambiguous conclusions could be drawn.
