| dc.description.abstract | Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether multiplication, efficiency of strategy execution and variability of strategy execution correlate with updating tasks digit-span-backwards, odd-one-out and keep track. Differences between multiplications in a context and bare problems were investigated. Method: The study focused on seventy-nine eight-year-old children. The data were obtained by means of three updating tasks and an eight-week long microgenetic multiplication study at school. Results: Significant differences between the children with strong updating abilities, mean updating abilities and weak updating abilities in efficiency of strategy execution and multiplication achievement were found. Efficiency of strategy execution did correlate directly with multiplication achievement too. Conclusions: Implications for understanding strategy choice processes, accuracy of multiplication and differences between multiplications in a context and bare problems by children with different updating abilities are discussed. | |
