In this MA thesis, the differences between translating written-word and spoken-word poetry will be researched. A theoretical framework will be made in which translation strategies and techniques regarding spoken- and written-word poetry will be discussed. Multiple translational problems will be discussed, including the translation of poetic elements, rhythm, form and culture-specific elements. The findings will then be used in an annotated translation of selected spoken-word and written-word work by Rupi Kaur. The thesis will end with a conclusion in which the differences between written-word and spoken-word poetry translation will be analysed and the preferred solutions to the translational problems will be reviewed.
