In my thesis, I have researched the religious, political, economic and military significance of Cape Sounion, for the broader region of Sounion (Laureotike) and the city of Athens (astu), during the Archaic and the Classical period. I have argued that the cape manifested the Athenian sovereignty at the southernmost boundary of Attica.
