| dc.description.abstract | The current research is a confirmatory research on parental risk factors with regard to detection of child maltreatment. Participants in this study are 221 parents (M = 34.81, SD = 5.35) and 181 feminine preschool teachers of ‘Spelenderwijs’ (M = 42.50, SD = 11.58) According to the literature there is a relation between parental socioeconomic status (SES), single parenthood mediated by the number of children in the family, parental addiction, and stress experienced by parents as a mediating factor on the risk on child maltreatment. Several regression analyses are carried out to examine these relationships. There is a significant relationship between SES, and addiction, and noticing risk of child maltreatment. The relationship between SES and noticing the risk of child maltreatment is mediated by stress. The risk factor single parenthood is significantly associated with the risk of emotional maltreatment. Furthermore, preschool teachers are found to be able to notice factors that cause stress experienced by parents. Therefore it is important that preschool teachers are vigilant about these risk factors experienced by parents, before they create an elevated risk for child maltreatment. Future research on these risk factors is recommended. | |
