dc.description.abstractThe importance of the Pedagogical Civil Society [PCS] has been an important focus of recent policymaking in the Netherlands. However, the application of this principle in ethnically diverse communities is a challenge. This thesis describes the role of the PCS when it comes to bridging and bonding social capital; contacts between and within ethnic groups in Culemborg. To gather data semi-structured interviews among 13 parents and online surveys among 100 parents are used. Important findings are that the current PCS and interethnic contacts are existent. Choosing whom to consult in rearing practices depends on lifestyle rather than ethnicity. Although there are obstacles regarding interethnic contacts; potential prejudice towards other groups is one in particular. Finally, the possibility of the implication of the programme Kom je bij me spelen, which aims to encourage interethnic contacts via children is evaluated. Parents seem to be willing to participate in the programme, though spatial segregation may be a barrier.
