| dc.description.abstract | Vroegtijdige onderkenning van ontwikkelingsachterstand op sociaal-emotioneel gebied is belangrijk voor preventieve interventie om zo ernstige problematiek op latere leeftijd tegen te gaan. Gevalideerde screeningsinstrumenten zijn hierbij gewenst. Deze studie onderzocht de betrouwbaarheid, construct- en convergente validiteit, en sensitiviteit en specificiteit van drie leeftijdsversies (12, 24 en 36 maanden) van de Ages and Stages Questionnaire Social Emotional (ASQ:SE; Squires, Bricker, & Twombly, 2002) in Nederland, bij respectievelijk 156, 70 en 176 kinderen. Het diagnostische ontwikkelingsinstrument Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, derde editie (Bayley-III-NL; Van Baar, Steenis, Verhoeven, & Hessen, 2014) werd gebruikt als gouden standaard. Betrouwbaarheid bleek matig tot voldoende met Cronbachs alfa waarden tussen .66 en .77. De constructvaliditeit, convergente validiteit en specificiteit bleken ruim voldoende. Over de factoriele validiteit en sensitiviteit kunnen echter geen definitieve uitspraken gedaan worden in verband met beperkte analysetechnieken en een populatie met weinig kinderen met afwijking in hun sociaal-emotionele ontwikkeling. Verder onderzoek, wellicht ook naar een herziende versie van het instrument, is gewenst. Dit leidt tot de conclusie dat het screeningsinstrument ASQ:SE veelbelovend is en met enige voorzichtigheid ingezet kan worden om kinderen te screenen op ontwikkelingsachterstanden op sociaal-emotioneel gebied.
Early identification of social-emotional developmental problems of young children is crucial for appropriate intervention to prevent serious developmental disorders. Valid screening instruments are needed for this purpose. Therefore, this research investigated reliability, construct and convergent validity, sensitivity and specificity of three versions (12, 24, and 36 months) of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional (ASQ:SE) (Squires, Bricker, & Twombly, 2002) in the Netherlands for 156, 70 and 176 children, respectively. The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Dutch third edition (Bayley-III-NL; Van Baar, Steenis, Verhoeven, & Hessen, 2014), a diagnostic instrument, was used as the golden standard for measuring social-emotional development. Results showed moderate reliability (Cronbach’s α ranges from .66 to .77). Furthermore, construct- and convergent validity and specificity were high. No definite statements can be made on factorial validity and sensitivity due to limited analytical techniques and a population lacking sufficient children with delay in social-emotional development. Therefore, further research is needed. In conclusion, the Dutch version of the ASQ:SE appears to be a promising screening instrument for social-emotional developmental problems in children. | |
