For this BA thesis I have made an annotated translation of the first half of a story called The Night of the Satellite, by T. Coraghessan Boyle. In my thesis I have laid down my reasons for choosing this story to translate and what mock commission I have set for myself, followed by a summary of the story, where I have briefly outlined the events that occur. After this introduction comes the translation-oriented text analysis. This analysis focuses on the specific translation problems that I found, placing them in four separate categories as suggested by Christiane Nord, namely pragmatic, culture specific, language specific and text specific translation problems. I have focused on the text specific translation problems, because that is where most of the translation problems I found in this story fell into. The theoretical text ends with a conclusion where I have summarized my findings. This is followed by the translation I made, accompanied by footnotes where I have explained several of my translation choices, as well as other translation possibilities that I considered. The final part of my thesis consists of my bibliography and the full text of "The Night of the Satellite" as an appendix.
