Dystopian narratives have been a growing theme within both literature as well as tv series and films: this thesis presents an analysis of the totalitarian society in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) and its depiction and function in three film adaptations, namely the 1953 American tv adaptation, the 1956 British adaptation and the 1984 adaptation by Michael Redford.
