The succes rate of surgical treatment of oral tumors in dogs

Abstract

This study investigated the success rate of surgical treatment when dealing with oral tumors. The patients were the dogs which were referred to the department of clinical sciences for companion animals at Utrecht University. Patient owners were questioned about the life after a partial jaw resection of their dogs. The study provided information about the quantity and quality of life after surgery. The majority of the dogs could live a happy life after surgery. A small part died due to recurring tumors or eating problems, but most of the dogs which had passed away, died due to old age. The ones which were still alive, are living a life with a quality similar to the life before the tumor.
