dc.description.abstract | Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine the link between temperament (effortful control/impulsivity and extraversion) and social competence and quality of the sibling relationship (warmth and conflict) of children (4-6 years). Method: A total of 617 Dutch mothers (Mage = 36, SD = 4.56) of young children (Mage = 4.61, SD = 1.03) filled out several questionnaires. Temperament was measured with the Children' s Behavior Questionnaire ' Very Short Form. Social Competence was measured with the Behavior Evaluation-30-parent. To measure the quality of the sibling relationship, the Parent Report of Early SIBling was used. Results: Results from several hierarchical regression analyses showed that impulsivity was associated with less social competence and less warmth in the sibling relationship. No gender differences were found. Findings also revealed that extraversion was significant associated with social competence, but only for girls. Conflict within the sibling relationship, however, was not significant influenced by extraversion. Discussion: Implications and recommendations for future research were discussed. | |
