dc.description.abstract | The new genre of chick lit swamping the book market is sometimes called 'the new Jane Austen'. In this thesis, the two chick lit novels 'Can You Keep a Secret?' by Sophie Kinsella and 'Take A Chance on Me' by Jill Mansell are analyzed side by side with Jane Austen's 'Emma', to see if these can be compared and if the chick lit novels have literary merit. | |
