| dc.description.abstract | This study has examined the need for and the utilization of various primary and tertiary grief interventions (as described by Schut en Stroebe, 2005) by grievers (N=241) and the relation with grief distress in order to check whether grievers make the right match between distress and type of intervention (according to De Keijser, 1997), using an online questionnaire. The relationship with social support was examined as well. Results supported that grievers with high grief distress felt more need for, and used more, tertiary interventions compared to grievers with low grief distress. However, they also reported more need for, and used more, primary interventions. Further, it was found that more negative social interactions were related to more need for help as well as utilization of help. Perceived social support only showed a negative relationship with utilization of help while received social support showed no relation with utilization of nor with need for help. Finally it was shown that grievers with low social support and many negative interactions showed more utilization of help than grievers with few negative interactions. | |
