dc.description.abstract | Aim: The influence of parent characteristics on their value of communicative competencies (CC) in conversations about parenting problems in consultatiebureaus, is researched. We differentiated between person-directed and general CC and task-focused and socio-emotional CC. Method: Data is collected in nine consultatiebureaus in Twente. Parents were asked to value CC by a card-rankingsystem, in case of a parenting-question, -tension and –crisis. Results: 102 parents of children aged 0-4 years old where researched. Results shows that parents give a higher value to general CC than person-directed CC. In case of a parenting-tension and –crisis, they value task-focused CC higher than socio-emotional CC. Being married has a positive effect on task-focused CC with a parenting-question and a negative effect with a parenting-tension. There is a positive effect of education level on task-focused CC for the mean score for all three cases and with a parenting-crisis. For the mean score for all three cases, having multiple children has a negative effect on task-focused CC and for a parenting-question, having a son has a negative effect. Conclusion: Parents give a higher value to general and task-focused CC than to person-directed and socio-emotional CC. Especially when parenting problems are more serious. Parent characteristics have little influence on their value of CC. | |
