The aim of this study was to find out what intentions, beneficial factors and barriers influence parental involvement in sports clubs in order to enhance the intervention pedagogical coordinator, which is aimed to improve pedagogical quality in sports clubs and improve parental involvement. In order to reach this aim a qualitative determinants analysis was completed. 14 parents and the pedagogic coordinator were in-depth interviewed for this study. The results showed that involved parents have sufficient knowledge concerning the importance of parental involvement. The most important barriers are lack of time, lack of interest in the sports club, lack of knowledge concerning the importance of parental involvement and lack of Dutch language skills. The intervention pedagogical coordinator can improve parental involvement by educating parents and sports clubs about parental involvement. It is also important to reach parents without sufficient Dutch language skills and to educate those parents.
