The effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of major depressive disorder
Summary
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a common disorder that has a major influence on the lives of patients. There are several hypotheses about the causes of MDD and the most common treatments used are psychotherapy, antidepressants and ECT. However, some patients do not respond to treatment. Transcranial magnetic stimulation has become an alternative treatment option. This thesis describes the literature on the efficacy of TMS in the treatment of MDD and compares it to other treatments.
