This master thesis focuses on an actual theme in historical Jesus research, to wit the connection between Galilee and the historical Jesus. It’s part of the so-called Third Quest for the historical Jesus. This Third Quest for the historical Jesus places him in his historic context. A reconstruction of the historical context of Galilee in the first century contributes to understand the words, deeds and character of the historical Jesus within his own circumstances. Numerous points of view have arisen about the combination of the historical Jesus and the context of Galilee in which he lived. These points of view constitute a complex body in which old hypotheses about the historical Jesus could not be maintained and new hypotheses have been developed. The present master thesis focuses on this matter. The research in this thesis makes an inventory of the various points of view there are on the connection between Galilee and the historical Jesus. This was done from three perspectives: ethnicity, tradition and religion, politics and economics. Each theme follows the same pattern. After the justification an analytical part follows and finally a conclusion.
