        Summary
This thesis analyses the most important underlying processes of the human rights debate, namely universalism and relativism. These processes are related to the phenomena of identity formation and heritage selection, which are of utmost importance in the field of heritage. The findings on these interrelated subjects are linked to the concept of the future Dutch National History Museum.
